Many people are familiar with the Statue of Liberty. If asked to describe her, they might mention her torch, her crown, or her robe. But what about her right foot? In this humorous telling of the famous statue’s history, author Dave Eggers and artist Shawn Harris remind readers of the significance of this “Mother of Exiles.” She is a symbol of freedom who cannot wait, but who must stride forward to meet those in need in the sea.

And she's in mid-stride, moving forward.
But why?

In this fascinating and fun take on nonfiction, Dave Eggers and Shawn Harris investigate a seemingly small trait of America's most emblematic statue.
