March 1, 2014

On March 1, the Falmouth Education Foundation honored Carol Chittenden and Liam & Deb Maguire at a Gala event. The staff at Eight Cousins was delighted to see Carol celebrated in this way for all the contributions that she has made to the Falmouth community over the past 28 years. We want to send our heartfelt thanks to all our friends in the publishing industry and in the community who made donations to the Falmouth Education Foundation in Carol's name.

You're all probably as excited as we are that the deep winter months are over. To help bridge the gap before spring starts in earnest, we have some great festivities planned this month. Falmouth Village is turning in to O'Falmouth Village in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. From Friday, March 14 through Monday, March 17 there will be games, discounts, specials, music, and green, green, green throughout the village. To see what various businesses are doing to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, click over to Falmouth Village's Pinterest page which has pictures of participating businesses and descriptions of events. For up-to-date announcements, the Falmouth Village Facebook page  is one of the best ways to find out what's happening around Main Street.

As for Eight Cousins, we are bringing back our Leprechaun scavenger hunt. From Monday, March 10 through Monday, March 17, find Seamus, Finn, O'Mally and friends for a chance to select a prize from the pot of gold!

We also have great St. Patrick's Day books in stock, as well as inspirational books celebrating women for Women's History Month.

Friday,March 28 through Sunday, March 30 will be our second annual Teacher Appreciation Weekend. Teachers, librarians, and school faculty from public and private schools are eligible for discounts. We'll also be giving gift bags filled with classroom materials. This year we are pleased to offer workshops on some of our favorite books and ideas about coordinating newly published books with Common Core standards. We'll be talking about medal winners, myths and fairy tales, storytime for pre-school teachers, science books, biographies, and the ever-discussed-but-never-quite-answered question: are there boy books and girl books or are they all just books? Sign ups for these workshops are on our website or in-store (staring Tuesday, March 11). If you'd like to receive information about events, specials, and information specifically for teachers, sign up for our Teacher Newsletter here.
