September 2017: Conferences

September 2017

September is a month of transitions, but for us it is also a month of conferences. First, the New England Independent Booksellers Association holds its Fall Conference in Providence, RI. The conference is all about meeting authors and illustrators, chatting with booksellers, and learning all about great new books.

At this year's conference, NECBA -- New England Children's Booksellers Advisory Council -- celebrated it's 30th anniversary. This milestone is particularly relevant at Eight Cousins for two reasons. First, because Carol Chittenden, founder of Eight Cousins, is also one of the co-founders of NECBA. Second, because this year Sara Hines, current co-owner of Eight Cousins, was one of the NECBA co-chairs. At the annual NECBA meeting, a sub-committee presented this year's Windows & Mirrors list. The purpose of this list is to highlight books that exhibit strong diversity and positive representation. Please find the full list of 24 titles here

Eight Cousins also participated in a second conference held here in Falmouth. The New England Human Resources Association holds its annual conference at the Sea Crest. For the second year, Eight Cousins organized a bookshop at the conference; the shop featured leadership and management books. The list of the most popular titles from this year's conference is here

As we're speeding towards October (!), we have started selecting our Holiday Picks. We look forward to announcing the final list in November. For now, we have new and old favorite Halloween books in our front window and Thanksgiving books are starting to arrive!
