February 2019: ALA Youth Media Award Winners

February 2019

American Library Association Youth Media Award Winners

This year's American Library Association Youth Media Awards were announced on January 28, 2019. Every year the awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the best in children's books. As a bookseller, it's also fun to compare notes. I always have a list of hopefuls and I'm curious about whether librarians love the same books I do each year.  I admit there were a few surprises, but I've now discovered a few new books to add to my favorites list.

This newsletter highlights some of the winners that we are particularly excited about and that we featured throughout 2018 in our Holiday Picks, Summer Picks, Staff Recommendations wall, newsletters, and educator events.

Thank you to the ALA for continuing to recognize and honor children's books.

Congratulations to all of the winners!

The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18.

Award winners and honor winners are currently on display in store. What are some of your favorite books from 2018? Any books that you wished would have won awards this year?
